In this workshop, held in Tehran at the Dargah Institute, I introduced extended techniques for the flute, focusing on developments in contemporary music from the 20th century to the present.

Participants explored a range of sound possibilities beyond flute playing, including multiphonics, key clicks, air sounds, singing while playing, and alternative fingerings. We also discussed the historical context and aesthetics behind these techniques, drawing on the works of composers who expanded the flute’s sonic vocabulary in the post-1945 avant-garde and beyond.

The workshop combined listening, discussion, and hands-on practice, aiming to provide both technical tools and a broader understanding of the expressive potential of the contemporary flute.
