Ali Choupani Nejad (b. 1995, Iran) is a flutist, improviser, and sound designer who bridges classical traditions with contemporary explorations. From a young age, Ali discovered his passion for music by teaching himself to play the piano through improvisation. This early focus on improvisation shaped his unique approach to learning, interpreting, and performing classical and contemporary music with an improvisatory perspective.

During high school, Ali found improvisation to be both a tool for deeper understanding of interpretive structures in classical music and an escape from the rigid and traditional teaching methods he encountered. This approach not only enriched his musical expression but also laid the foundation for his ongoing exploration of creative freedom in music.

Ali also developed a deep interest in Iranian traditional and folk music, immersing himself in the rich diversity of local musical traditions. In the early years of his university studies, he turned his focus toward contemporary music, an interest that led him to collaborate extensively with Iranian composers. Over the years, he has recorded and performed numerous works written for solo flute and various ensembles, contributing to the visibility of contemporary Iranian music.

Ali earned his Master’s degree in Classical Music from the Art University of Tehran and is currently pursuing an Advanced Master’s in Contemporary Music at KASK Conservatorium in Belgium. His long-term projects and primary artistic interests revolve around exploring the possibilities of performing music by non-musicians, teaching classical music through improvisation, and discovering a new language to present Middle Eastern music with a personal and innovative expression.
